The most romantic Monday of the year

Today Yesterday was the most romantic Monday of the year for most people~ I'm always so amused at how people react to this day every year *_*

The singles burst in outrage saying that its just another day, or band together in self pity, calling it Singles Awareness Day or something to that effect.. XD

The doubles on the other hand don't say anything (in fear of being bricked to death by jealous peers? XD) but go out of their way to display their affection to the world~ *o*

I have nothing against the tradition of Valentine's day, after all, it's just a tradition that reminds us to love each other <3

What I do have a problem with is how certain parties take advantage of this tradition. You know the symptoms, raised chocolate prices, extremely expensive Valentine's themed food sets, overpriced flowers, all this and more~

Speaking of flowers, I'm one of the types of people that dislikes the idea of flowers. For one, they've never appealed to me. Are they really beautiful? To be more practical, flowers can never last for long (plus I'm too lazy to maintain them ;_;) Wilting flowers are one of the saddest images one can see, not to mention the pain of throwing them away and remembering how much was spent on them T_T

Its sad how society has capitalized an innocent day like Valentine's day into a commercialized money making holiday :\

But on the other hand, its really interesting to me how Valentine's day has become something that is able to affect so many people (whether they want to admit it or not). The thing is, as most single people will claim, Valentine's day is just another day, another boring Monday.

Its just a tradition that was practiced since olden times and has meaning only because people treat it to have meaning~ In fact, I can say the 15th of February is Breaking-Up day and if enough people rally behind me and practice it until it becomes a tradition, you will see plenty of couples ending their relationships the day after Valentine's day~ lol that would be awesome XD

This phenomena really strengthens my belief in a theory that I have, that humans are able to create whatever (social) reality that they wish, as long as the majority believes it to be so. This theory is the basis of why I don't believe in any religion because I understand that religion is also a construction of humanity, and while it is constructed for the greater good and ordering of society, like Valentine's day, holy religions can also be capitalized for certain party's benefits ^_~

In a similar vein, this also theoretically allows any type of society to be possible - as long as one can rally the majority to follow suit. This is why words are the most powerful (and dangerous) weapons in a human being's arsenal (towards other humans), and is why I'm so fascinated with words, languages, and compelled me to study linguistics...

...though of course, I never get to learn any such things in any syllabus in my course T_T with the exception of Language of Persuasion and Negotiation *o* which basically teaches you how to become a conman XP and is the basis of almost all methods of advertising, another one of my interests :9

And so, this is how I spent half an hour of my Valentine's day, sitting alone in KLCC digesting a hearty meal of McDonalds, mulling over what to blog on the most romantic Monday of the year while watching couples do silly things like sitting on the same side of a 4-seated table as if they're shooting a drama.. XD and coming with a post that has too much philosophy and too little romance to fit the theme of Valentine's day.. ;_;

    Mind > Thoughts > Words > Actions > Reality

    If there are enough people to actually think about saving the World...

  3. lol khairul XD amazing news lol

    I think the raise in flower prices is more to do with demand rather than the lack of supply.. XP

  4. I think it's both? When the demand is high and the supply is insufficient... Harga melambung~ Even better reason to melambungkan harga..

  5. They will surely sufficientkan the supply ^o^ Thats why got so many flower farms that make flowers almost exclusively for valentines day, mother's day, funerals, etc [citation needed]
