The importance of beautiful people

If there's one thing I don't understand, its the strange distaste of beautiful people.

When I say beautiful people, I mean those really gorgeous-looking, model-class, idol-level, almost perfect, mannequin types~ alternatively, if it were to apply to everyday-people, it would be the 'best looking in the group/class/what have you' people.

There are certain people that automatically shy away and show dislike for these people who are really beautiful, as if they want nothing to do with them.

Why?

Is it because they are jealous? That must be it, right? Some people get so insecure about their looks when they're around people who are way more attractive than themselves that the discomfort that ensues makes them want to hide in a corner, which translates into a dislike for the source of this horrible experience; the beautiful person.

Or is it because it is too mainstream? I know this is a little stretching it, and I think I've mentioned this phenomena sometime ago in one of my blogposts.. When everybody a person knows is fawning over this perfect person, a certain distaste forms because it has become too mainstream. Its a natural human inclination, nobody wants to be the same as everyone, we all want to be unique, even though it means lying to oneself. This can also be related to jealousy actually *scratches back of head* :P

OR, is it because they don't want to admit that they're attracted to the obviously very attractive person? I know it sounds totally ridiculous, but I've done this before (maybe I'm weird). I have denied many times, saying that a girl looks "so-so" or "eehhh, not bad la.." when I actually think that she's pretty good looking. Why? Thinking back, it was because I didn't want to admit it, either because I didn't want to be like every other person I knew fawning over her, or because I didn't want to give the impression that looks matter a lot to me.

I like the last idea, because I think its quite true in a lot of people. Nobody likes to admit that they love looking at beautiful people, even though it is a totally logical and natural thing to feel. We humans are programmed in our jeans genes to love staring at good looking people. Its the way we subconsciously select fertile and suitable mates in order to generate good offspring :D

But why, why do we love to deny our true natures and try our best to cover it up? The same reason why we wear clothes or act nicely to everyone even though we're going like "fuck you fuck you, what the hell? shut up!" in our minds; the judgmental eyes of society.

I'm not saying its a bad thing, I'm just saying this is how things are. Guys are freaking scared to admit that they love oogling at pretty girls because they'll be paint a giant sign on their head saying "hi i'm a pervert lol" :(

I've seen so many girls that have ingrained in their minds that every single guy is a pervert and whenever he looks at a girl, he admires her boobs, her waistline, her butt, and her legs only and nothing else.. wanting to get in her pants at all costs v_v When you know girls have that perception of you, you'd be a little paranoid about showing even a bit of bias towards pretty girls because you don't want to be seen as .. someone who cares about looks, right?

That's for guys, I don't know if its the same for girls, but I can imagine that there should be a parallel somewhere.. you tell me. All I know is that the need to suppress oneself in such a way is bullshit >_< I love looking at beautiful girls! I love SNSD because they're all freaking attractive *o* its not the only reason, but its one of the main reasons! That doesn't automatically make me a pervert, I don't masturbate to them, but why do I get the feeling that my friends (of all people *rolls eyes*) think that I am?! v__v bullshit

*ahem*

Don't people know, that beautiful people are actually really important? Little known fact, beautiful people help drive the economy. To borrow one famous catchphrase, sex sells, while this doesn't mean pornography, but good looking people certainly help sell products :O Just look at 99% of advertisements all around you, actors, performers, singers, they're all visually appealing. You put a nice looking person on a product and people are more likely to buy it @o@

What? I'd never do that. I buy a product because it's good, not because the girl in the advertisement is totally gorgeous.. I'm not getting her, so why should I care?

Then why did the advertising companies continue to bother putting so much money and effort into producing advertisements with beautiful people in it?

I'm here to tell you that subconsciously, it certainly works. It doesn't totally brainwashes people, but there is a significant amount of times where an attractive person can sway a customer to buy a certain product. That's why good looking salesgirls are an important part of any shopping counter. We're subconsciously more likely to let our guard down around good looking people - and its perfectly normal ^^

Ok, maybe you have full control over your senses and you're not materialistic or perverted or whatever. Good for you~ You're awesome and have transcended base human urges *o* I'm jealous .w. I'd love to shake your hand but I wouldn't want to defile it with my unworthy paws ;o;

But for the vast majority of people out there, the sales tactic of using beautiful people to promote products is totally plausible, and you know what is the main driver of economies in large first world countries such as America? Consumer spending. That's how I came up with the bold claim that beautiful people are one of the main drivers of economies *o*

..wait, what is this bullshit? Sure, beautiful people sell certain products, it helps a product stand out from its competitors that don't use beautiful looking packages, but what if nobody makes use of our basic instinct of letting our guard down in front of an attractive person, what if they all used normal packaging?

That would be true, making my point not very strong,.. IF the products that are being sold are things we always need like food, toiletries and (basic) clothes, BUT, most of the products that take advantage of this part of human nature are products that we don't need. That's right, beautiful people not only persuade you to choose certain products over others, but they also persuade you to buy things that you don't necessarily need.

While this might enrage you because it sounds like a whole marketing ploy to siphon all your money (and it is, really :P) it is also ultimately a 'good thing', because the more consumers spend, the more the economy develops ^o^ causing ... good things to happen for a country's economy, preventing stuff like price hikes, wars and.. okay this is obviously uncharted territory for me +_+ someone get this guy into an economics class +o+

Heh.. that's about it, I guess. On a more personal note, attractive people are said to actually make people feel better. If you spend your time looking at attractive people, your brain excretes a certain hormone that makes you happy and ultimately helps relieve stress, avoid heart conditions and helps blood circulation ^^ So don't tell me that fangirling over SNSD is bad for my health >:O The only bad thing that might happen is that I might get smile lines near my eyes and cheeks because I'm smiling too much ^_^ hee

*gets smacked* wokey, that's it for today folks :3 thanks for reading~

how to menyapa people

I'm so smart, right? ^w^

So naturally, I practice what I preach, and in an msn convo sometime later;

..thats why I said, life online is totally different from real life! >o<

Me, for example. The Kitsune you see online (which for many of you, is the only Kitsune you know of) is almost totally different from the me in real life! :O

Its been quite awhile since I've made friends online before meeting them in real life.. but I'm pretty sure I'll get responses from them like "..you're nothing like how you sound like online dude.. you're so mundane in real life ~_~" etc

Meh, its not like its a new experience or anything. Long long ago while your grandmother was still young, I used to be really active in forums and sounded more or less like I do now online minus the profanities and add more ^O^s, XDs, and nya nya nyas ^o^

..okay that is definitely not 'more or less alike' .o.

But I digress ^w^ what I wanted to say was most of my original online friends thought I sound like a (cute) girl ^o^ they were sorely disappointed when we met in real life and they realized that I was actually a pokemon o3o pikaa

So naturally I have come up with the impression that people, no matter how transparent and 'genuine' they are, have different personalities between their online selves and their 'real life' selves.

It has something to do with the impersonal nature of online interactions.. sure, you can argue that there are display pictures and nicknames and even fonts and colors that helps personalize your online persona to some degree.. but..

..yeah, like I said, personalize your online persona. Once you're communicating through the medium of the internet, the internet shreds your skin and meat and bones and reduces you to raw electrical impulses that originate from your brain to your fingers to the keypads you're pressing to the ones and zeroes that form the message on your screens!

Sounds as if your online personality is even more raw than your 'real life' personality, isn't it? Which is ironic considering the fact that being online is often associated with having a 'mask' of sorts.

Its as if you're behind a safety wall where you can voice out anything you want or feel like with almost no negative repercussions to your 'real self' thanks to the relative anonymity of the internet, right? That's why people are more critical and mean and horrible and horny and flirty and cute and sparklier online than they are in real life ^w^

I mean, I can easily say fuck you ^_^ to you right now to your face! Oh yeah I just did :3 But when we meet in real life, I'm as shy as a mouse ^o^ pii pii *hides behind a pillow*

What does this mean, though? I think it means that the common consensus that we wear masks online to hide our true 'real' selves has got it backwards. The masks we wear are actually our 'real' life personas and our real, true selves are what we exhibit online, where we don't have to hold back ;D

Doesn't it make sense? It sure makes sense to me when I think about the fact that in real life, I always have to watch what I say because I might offend someone (and more importantly punched in the face or kicked in the groin x_x) so I'm always filtering my words and actions, sometimes having to hold back what I think to avoid trouble.

Isn't that really fake, though? Its not what I really feel or want to do, right? I have to be considerate and prim and proper and decent :O

Compare it to online, where all hell breaks loose ^w^ I post whatever the shit I want on facebook all the time without a care in the world who reads it and what they think (and I have lecturers and family members who have my facebook so...) and the way I talk.. phew. I rarely talk like that to the same people I meet in real life, not unless they're really close to me and I'm particularly high at the moment (high as in not sober, I wasn't greeting you v_v)

And look! o_o <-- look at all these emoticons! @_@ Of course I'm not an emotionless pokerface in real life, (at least I hope not) but I almost never ever act cute or kawaii (yes I know they mean the same thing but they dont! @O@) in real life! Why? Because acting cute with my physical looks is downright disgusting! XD

So er what was I talking about? I thought I had some profound idea earlier but I think I drowned it with my randomness *_*

Ah yes, real life is actually the fakest thing ever, and the masquerading online personas we have are actually (maybe, I dunno, I suspect, I theorize) our 'real selves' *_* What we're really like, our true personalities, what's in our hearts~

..which means that deep down, I'm probably an obnoxious 13 year old lesbian girl ;w;

buuuut its not all about me, isn't it? Well it is for me XP but it sure isn't for you! So think about it, are you more 'real' in real life, or when you're online? ^_^

Don't worry if you're different (or the same) with 'the norm', after all, just look at superheroes~ they all have really, really mild-mannered (read: mundane) personalities for their 'real life' selves, but once they put on their disguises (online masks/personas) they become courageous and witty SUPERHEROES WOOO HOO~ *O* which, is actually their true selves :O

Interesting, no? ^_^

High brain volatility

Good morning kids, today I'm going to educate you about the concept of brain volatility.

Its actually pretty straight-forward. Like all concepts with bombastic words, brain volatility can be simplified by identifying what the roots of each of its words mean;

Brain, is the instrument that facilitates our faculty for thinking, the place where all our ideas, memories and commands are given for the rest of our body to carry out. It is also the least used section of our anatomy.

Volatility comes from the root word volatile, which simply means something that is unstable, or uncertain. Not fixed in one place, as it were.

So when you smash both words together, you have a brain that is highly unstable. I.e. cuckoo ^o^ hahahaha... *ahem* so yeah, brain volatility is basically just a measure of.. how mentally unstable one can be :)

While most of you might not have heard or read of the concept of brain volatility until today, (because I came up with it, seriously, do a google search and you'll find nothing[1] on 'brain volatility' except for this blogpost which is the top of the search! *o*) it is no new concept and has been around in popular culture for decades.

One of the best examples would be the saying that someone has 'some screws lose'. It is a very apt metaphor which likens a highly volatile brain to a contraption which has screws lose, hence being unstable and might fall apart at any time :|

Another good example comes from term used in computer science; volatile memory, which refers to the memory which only lasts as long as the power is on and goes missing once you turn the computer off :O

As computers are among the best analogies to human physio- and pshychological conditions, we also have things that can only be remembered if we put a lot of power, i.e. effort, into it. Like cramming for exams ^o^ dissapears right away after the paper is done~ volatile memory, folks.

The most common usage for the word volatile, however, is used in chemistry, and the first definition one finds on google is that a highly volatile object that becomes gas (vaporized) very easily nothing. Seriously, google?! You don't know what 'volatile' means?! *rolls eyes*...  Anyways, while easily becoming vaporized actually means that the molecular bonding of said object is highly unstable (lose), that's really boring :(

We can still liken it to brain volatility, though, by linking the ease of vaporizing to the popular saying of a person who is an airhead. Now all of the sudden such arbitiary phrases get cleared up and we get eureka-ed with the realization that "oh! airhead = high brain volatility! @o@"

This, my friends, is why I am a linguist :3

I can go on and on for days, as there are limitless analogies referring to the wonderful concept of brain volatility, such as train of thoughts that derail themselves without warning, chronic indecision and ADD, but I really gotta get back to rushing my deadlines ^^;

You see, I have a confession to make.

I have extremely high brain volatility T______T *sobs uncontrolably* my train of thought derails like its running on the beach during sunset, my blogposts are brimming with ideas but woefully unorganized and chaotic at best, and whenever I have to start concentrating my mind on doing work...

...I start getting the urge to blog o_o;

*rushes off to work* ;__;

[1] apparently, if you type [brain volatility] only my blog shows up, but if you put in the exact search option of ["brain volatility"] a lot more comes up... oh well ^^;; you can't win them all..

Sauce Code

Have you watched the movie Source Code?

If you haven't, you should go watch it now ^o^ Don't worry, I'll wait right here ^_^

Watched it already? Nice right?

Not nice? :(

Ok nevermind, anyways. Whenever I watch movies, I'm always impressed by new mechanics in each movie, whether its the superhero's superpower, some law-defying invention or concept, its amazing *o* Even the most seemingly janky mechanics can still have so much depth and spawn so much discussion~!

..just that I don't have anyone to really discuss with :( ah well.

Which is why I'm doing it here ^O^ I guess

So yeah, in Source Code, there is this mechanic that resembles a time loop. The character experiences the same 8 minutes (of a dead person) over and over throughout the course of the story. But what we learn later from the creator of the Source Code, some limping professor, is that it is not time travel.

Wait, what? Its not? Then what is it? Well apparently, he spoke scienglish (science+english) so even the guy doing the subtitles just went "ah whatever man *leaves empty*" and I couldn't catch it because I watched the movie only once, so here goes nothing;

Apparently, what the main character is going through is actually the dead guy's memories of the last 8 minutes of his life being replayed over and over again (to find out who the bomber of the train is and *insert some bomb related storyline here*) through some break through technology (called the Source Code.. tada~!) where the dying memory of a dead person can be retrieved and replayed in another's mind like a CCTV recording!

Well, at least that's my understanding of the limping doctor's explanation...

This works because the Source Code isn't a disaster prevention machine. Its not made to go back in time to avert catastrophes. The reason for our main character's mission is to find out who the bomber is to stop a bigger bomb that is about to go off. The train has exploded and there's nothing our hero can do to save the already dead people :(

Storyline aside, knowledge of how the Source Code is supposed to work allows us to come to the first very obvious problem that occurs from the discontinuity of two truths in the movie; If the 8 minute joyride is just a replaying of the dead guy's memories, how the heck can the main character deviate from what the dead guy originally did and walk around the train doing whatever he wants?! You can't read a book and punch a character you don't like in the middle of it, right?

The second problem stems from the direct spit in the face of the doctor's theory. SPOILER ALERT ^O^ the ending shows an alternate timeline in which the main character saves the whole train and gets the girl and lives happily ever after in true Hollywood fashion ^O^ (I mean.. seriously? lol -o-). So what now, after Inception its suddenly cool to fuck around with audiences minds? Tell them one thing and then totally contradict yourself later?

Yup, its the new trend, folks :D Politicians have been doing it for centuries... tried and true method of the entertainment industry ^o^ First, tell them a nice lie, then sucker punch them with the revelation afterwards! XD (yes, politics is as much entertainment as wrestling is entertainment, bad entertainment, but still entertainment XD)

So of course, everyone is a movie analyst these days and there are tons over tons of opinions and explanations that stemmed from these plotholes ^o^

One opinion is that the movie's writers SUCKS BALLS and don't know a thing about story continuity. That, or are helpless, spineless souls that succumb to the expectations of Happy Endings ^_^ OR maybe they just wanna be cool like everyone else and make a totally WTF ending :( Stupid bandwagon jumpers. Get your own bandwagon!

Another opinion is that the doctor who created the Source Code accidentally created a method of time travel instead. This idea is mainly attributed to the fact that towards the end, the main character actually says that "the Source Code works better than [the doctor] thought," implying that there might be more to the Source Code than the doctor's explanation.

So all those 8 minutes would actually be alternate timelines stemming from the same starting point. Its that parallel reality idea where when you travel back in time, you create an alternate timeline which, while changed, does not affect the timeline you came from, so in a way, you can't change your past but can change the past in a parallel reality. Dragonball Z uses this logic. This explains the ending where the hero happily ends up with the girl and everyone's safe and sound ^o^

But it creates a new slew of problems. If the Source Code does enable parallel time travel, what happens to the dead guy every time the hero gets transported into his timeline?! Does his consciousness get replaced by the hero when the hero gets transported into his body? Is it consciousness that gets displaced, ..or his soul? Poor guy! @O@; the hero just comes in and freaking possess him and takes over his life, his money, and his girlfriend! What a jerk!

The moral implications are mind blowing. Which transitions nicely to our next opinion, which is a spiritual and religious one v_v A religious person can see the whole experience of the hero as a journey of redemption (especially highlighted by his drive to help out after hearing his father's speech, and resolving his 'unfinished business' by telling his dad how much he actually cares for him and vice versa) There is no time travel here, but the focus is more towards the journey of the hero, re-living the last 8 minutes of another's life and trying to selflessly serve his country and save countless lives.

What happens in the end, then, is the main character finding peace with himself and being able to successfully move on... to heaven, which is depicted in the scene where everybody is happy and alive in his world, and he gets to spend the rest of his life with a beautiful girl (there needs to be an incentive after all, right?) It helps that everyone in that world in the end is actually dead in 'the real world', which backs up the theory that that might be a depiction of heaven ^o^

These are just a few of the many, many theories that could be produced from the minds who watched the movie, and all of them have their merits and weaknesses. All of them are possible, though. Just like the theory that multiple parallel timelines can exist, multiple interpretations of a story are possible. None are absolutely correct, and none are wrong and unacceptable either ^_^ Yes, even if the movie makers made a press release tomorrow and told everyone that "yes, this is what we meant to say with the movie," it doesn't make that interpretation absolute.

There's this concept brought up by Roland Barthes called The Death of the Author. I don't really remember the details, but basically what the theory says is that literary analysis, which in olden times were done with respects to what the writer was trying to say through his works, is outdated and has shifted towards the reader instead. Hence, the death, of the author ._.

Sure, the writer is the creator of the writing, but according to this theory, the meaning that the writer assigns to the writing is not the absolute meaning. Once the writing is read by another person, a new meaning is formed in that other person's mind (because no two people think exactly alike), and so on, and so forth. J.K Rowling can claim that Dumbledore is gay all she wants, but if some homophobic chap wants to see it as a publicity stunt to get more readers and that Dumbledore is that nice old grandpa he knew since 12, nobody can tell him otherwise.

And that's what's so beautiful about this theory. That interpretation is up to you ^o^ I've had this theory in my mind for a very long time now, but the movie Source Code really emphasizes this theory nicely~ The parallel timelines aligning nicely with the parallel interpretations possible to the story, the very possibility that the doctor's explanation about the Source Code he created could be wrong, that it is more than he thought it was, makes you think as if the movie Source Code was written by a subscriber to the theory of The Death of the Author, right? ^_~ maybe, maybe not.

What I like about this theory, though, is that it is not only applicable in literary analysis or movie analysis. It is applicable to anything and everything! *O* How we understand everything in our lives is from our own point of view, from what we believe and what we interpret things to be, and everybody is different because everybody understands things differently. The best part? Nobody is right, and nobody is wrong! ^o^ Whatever works for you works for you, and you alone ^o^

Another reason why I like this theory is that it applies amazingly to the most read work of literature known to mankind; The <insert holy book of choice here> XD That's right, the bible, or the quran, or the torah, or whatever else, is subject to the reader's interpretation, and nobody is wrong! Nobody is right! From the selfless and pious worshipers set on a one way trip to heaven to the most extremist of suicide bombers, they're all rightfully living out how they interpret the words of their creator - which is how religion is supposed to work, anyway, as religion is between you, and god ^o^ There is never a need for a mediator to do the interpreting for you :(

...at least, that's the way I interpret it ;P

The three brothers

For those of you who were looking for what happened to the three bears in the previous post, look no further...

Today's story, on the other hand, is a lot more... philosophical? I dunno, its certainly a lot more 'serious' sounding :3 Without further ado;

The Three Brothers

A long time ago, there were three brothers.

They all grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools. They were really bright kids and had really good ideas and intentions to make the world a better place.

Because they originated from the same school of thought, it would've been totally awesome if they worked together towards their common goal, and in hindsight it seems only logical to do so. But you know what they say, hindsight is 20/20 while foresight is blind.

So eventually, due to certain small differences in their methods, the brothers eventually converged towards their own seperate paths.

The eldest brother was the kindest of them all, but he was not very enterprising. He had, however, noble intentions and had a very sound basic framework on how to carry out said noble intentions, a trait actually shared by all three brothers.

The problem (though it could be argued that it might be a blessing in this case) with the eldest brother, lets call him J, is that he did not have big ambitions and was a lot more passive compared to his brothers. This would play a big part in their future where J gets pushed around and bullied by not just his friends but even his brothers as well

Many still followed J and his laid-back ways towards making the world a better place, some of them proving to be the most loyal followers that stuck with him through the hardest of times.

The second brother, on the other hand, was very enterprising and had the gift of communicating to people and coaxing them into subscribing to his methods. In other words, he was the perfect PR guy of his time. Lets call him C. C was very influential and spread his ideals far and wide. He is by far the most successful of the three but also the most tainted with.. unethical methods.

You see, even though they all meant well and had the main goal to make the world a better place, C had a lot less ethics compared to his brothers and would go to any lengths to persuade others to his ways. To continue with the analogies, C would've been an unbelievable successful businessman if he were alive today, as he packaged and sold his idea very well.

The youngest brother, which we would refer to as M, was ironically stuck between his two elder brothers in terms of his abilities. He had a lot of the same qualities of C, but did not possess his elder brother's ability to persuade others.

M was, however, unbelievably daring and had a lot of self confidence in himself. His methods were lined out perfectly as a perfect guideline that if followed, would eventually result in the ideal world. Like his brothers before him, many subscribed to his ideals, which were wonderfully easy as they seemed only instructions to be followed and requires almost zero effort in decision making.

Due to the perscriptive nature of M's methods, he was also very pushy and seemingly narrow minded, alienating whomever and whatever that stood in his way and even exorts to extreme acts sometimes, which were justified by the fact that following his plan would eventually make everything better, even if it meant sacrifices had to be made.

It wasn't long before C and M's ideals would clash and resulted in unresolved bad blood between the two brothers. The two faught over everything and eventually took it out on their eldest brother as well, who put up very little resistance anyway.

It is unbelievably ironic when one looks at the big picture of the events that happen and realize that at their core, all three brothers have the exact same intentions and subscribe to the same basic ideas, but could not work together at all due to seemingly petty differences.

Sometimes, it is those small, insignificant differences that creates the biggest conflicts.

This is why seemingly simple ideas like 'world peace' are horrendously difficult to achieve, I guess ^o^;

Freedom fighters fight AGAINST the prospect of freedom! ;o;

I have been labeled as a freedom fighter of sorts. Though I don't really like the connotations associated with it (because I can't live up to the cool imagery of a freedom fighter sob sob), I do think that 'freedom fighter' suits me pretty well.

The main reason I'm called a freedom fighter is because I seem to be (from the tone of most of my blogposts) fighting for the freedom of thought, of speech, of everything. Long story short, I always, always preach and advocate to you to do whatever the hell you want ^o^

While this is true, I'm actually very torn about the issue. The more I think about it, I'm kinda against the fact that we should do whatever we want. I don't know how to start explaining though. I have not the time or actually bothered to lay out my whole philosophy and epistemology right here on this blog, most of what you've seen are just bits and pieces, tips of many icebergs ;D

If I were to map out each and every one of my thoughts on, er, everything, it would make the most tl;dr blogspot I've ever made look like a tweet -3- In fact, I think it would take so much time that if I were in a cyber cafe I'd be declared immediately bankrupt after I'm done with it.

What's more, I'm afraid that by doing so I might actually end up writing something akin to a holy scripture and become revered by a newfound religion based on my.. bullshit *_* I've always fancied the idea of creating my own religion, but nah, I don't want the responsibility attached with being a god.. I've got no time to worry about other people +_+

Oh well, at least now I know that if I do, I'll die soon after because I couldn't pay for the internet and be martyred off shortly after. Did you know that its an accepted fact that someone has to die before any of their work can be truly appreciated? Something about not being able to declare any of your masterpieces your 'best work' because as long as you're alive, you still have the potential to top whatever you've done.

...aiya. See, derailed again XD;

Coming back to advocating freedom. According to what's been mapped out in my mind, the ideal world would be one that doesn't require any sort of rules, regulations, governments, not even money! Everybody does whatever they want, whenever they want :D

But there's a catch. There always is a catch, isn't there? :\

In an ideal world where everyone is free to do whatever they choose to do, everybody has to be fully responsible for themselves. Everybody has to think for themselves and fend for themselves. When everybody  is too busy doing whatever they want, nobody's got any time to help you.

Of course if you have great critical thinking skills (or are just an ass in general) you would think of the possibility that there'll be people who live to help other people. I'm definitely not one of those people (I also have a very twisted theory on that, but that's a story for another day) so lets assume they won't exist ok T_T

After all, the first few good samaritans would exist out of sheer probability, but sooner or later they will be swamped by useless people who will gladly latch onto the help they give and according to Mr Darwin, C., these outliers will sooner or later become extinct. Weeded out through nature's equilibrium sustaining mechanism - survival of the fittest.

So in order to live in this less than ideal world, one has to be totally responsible for each and every action. You've got all the freedom you want, sure, but with great power comes great responsibility T_T It sure sounds like a great environment to nurture self-sufficient people... But how are any of us, a generation of humans who grew up being told exactly what to do and not to do, going to survive in such an environment?

Its not like its impossible, no, of course not. People adapt. The strongest will survive. Its an ideal world, after all, so of course there wouldn't be any faults in it. The problem lies with me. I put myself in such an environment and I think "oh my god so damn leceh la.. I have to think and work hard all the time?! I have to decide everything all the time?" I can't even decide what to eat for dinner!

Too. Much. Decisions. T_T

I haven't even touched on how such a society would function. Well, there wouldn't even be a society. It'll be chaos. Think of a t-junction without a traffic light. You don't even need to have a lot of imagination (especially if you live in a bustling city full of humans) - ever saw a traffic light break down? Total anarchy on the road.

Only drivers with balls get to go, narrowly missing accidents, while the weak and meek wait patiently until a kind old guy lets them go.. but until then, they get honked to oblivion by the impatient people behind them..  some succumb to pressure and dash out, only to meet an aggressive driver who scares them into stopping - in the middle of the road. I should watch traffic more often, perfect showcase of basic human behavior ^o^

So yeah, even though I find a lot of my philosophies and ideas for an ideal human society (or rather, lack thereof) pretty legit, I seriously doubt I can practice what I preach perfectly :P I always lambaste the ideals of every religion as bullshit, outdated and flawed in so many ways. Then I should be careful of not calling the kettle black and stop myself from crossing the thin line between posting crap on my blog and starting my own religion (which would be ahead of its time).

Outdated... ahead of their time... its like the great minds of society (talking about other people, not me T_T) never seem to be thinking the correct things at the correct time. Oh well, you know what they say, great minds think alike :D

Just like the term 'freedom fighter', I might sound like I'm fighting for freedom, but when you analyze it logically, I could also be fighting against freedom, just like how a crime fighter (BATMAN ^O^) fights crime.. I dunno.

If you ask me, I'm still confused at what I actually think :S The answer to the meaning of life isn't that easy to figure out, I guess. I actually thought I had it figured out, but I've always failed to put it into words.. its either my writing skills still suck (true) or if I actually post up the (proper) meaning of life for everyone to read, it'll cause a tear in the space-time continuum and spontaneously bluescreen everyone in the world and bad command or filename...

Why global warming is bullshit

Hey guys ^o^ long time no see~

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been really bogged down lately by the burden that is real life. Seriously, the biggest obstacles in the way of the advancement of human civilizations are sleep and hunger T_T

We're all victims of the disease where the energy in our body depletes and eventually runs out, requiring us to sustain ourselves with nutrients from food sources >_<

As if that's not enough, every human is infected from birth with the affliction of sleep. With this horrible disease we are never able to perform 100%, our bodies shutting down to a state of near-death for at least a third of our everyday lives, foreshadowing us with the glimpse of the eventual death that we're cursed with thanks to this plague named sleep v_v

...but we're supposed to talk about global warming today, aren't we? ^o^

Unlike my other long ass articles, I'm going to start with the conclusion today :3

Human beings are too full of themselves. How, can a race that has been around for only 2 million years with a measly recorded history of two thousand years hope to effect a self-sufficient ecosystem that has been functioning for billions of years?

Sure, you can point to the massive pollution and depletion of the ozone layer of the earth that's directly caused by our sins. I'll point out to you that to the Earth, its just a bad case of skin disease. At worst, its just a flesh wound ^^

The world is ending next year, they say. They point to the wars and the natural disasters happening en large throughout our world and forecast armageddon. Why does that word need to be capitalized anyway? I have no respect for religion :P Maybe I should get one considering the world's going to end next year, right?

Didn't I just say that its boastful to claim that humanity can effect the earth in any permanent way? That's right. But the possibility that the world will end next year is just as real as the possibility that there is a god, a heaven, and a hell *_*

What most people misunderstand is that whenever we say that the end of the world is near, we actually mean that the end of humanity is near. Understandable, though, as to quote renown philosopher Michael Jackson; we are the world~ we are the future~ *o* So no us, no world :(

Same goes when the politicians and environmentalists that claim global warming will destroy the world *o* Our good ol' mother earth wouldn't be bothered even a bit. She'll just shrug off humanity and start a new cycle ^o^ Maybe cockroaches :3 Environmentalists aren't warning that the world will be destroyed, it'll just be rendered inhabitable... ..for us humans :P

Of course this all sounds very typical of me. I make a bold statement like "Global warming is bullshit!" and proceed to skillfully talk about how it is the way we perceive the destruction of the world that's causing all this hoo-hah. "But Kitsune," you'd add, feeling awkward using my internet nickname, but whatever, "that doesn't make global warming bullshit, it's still a threat!"

No. Even though I derailed completely from the title, global warming is still bullshit. You see, the earth has this amazing self-sufficient system where it maintains equilibrium naturally. You've seen it on national geographic; too many predators? They naturally starve to death, decreasing their numbers and allowing the prey to repopulate ^o^

Too much herbivores? Plants being overgrazed? The predators will boom with the increase of food supply while overpopulation increases the odds of hungry and weak herbivores, eventually lowering the number of prey :3

Put an ice cube in room temperature, it melts into water to achieve equilibrium with it's surroundings ^o^ Pee in Antartica, it freezes in no time as equilibrium evenly distributes its heat away~

Not many people know the official story of how the dinosaurs died out. As a huge fan of dinosaurs (I've drawn a fair share of cicaks in my youth :3), I've eventually discovered how dinosaurs became extinct, and unlike most official flashy versions, they died a slow and eventual death v_v such is the way of nature.

Approximately 300 million years ago, at the beginning of the age of the dinosaurs, the earth was hot. It was so freaking hot that if we were from that time, we would be worried about global cooling rather than global warming. Today's tropical climate that humans complain to be extremely hot and humid and eww I'm so sweaty is a cool breezy day compared to a temperate day during the Jurassic period ^o^

It is this extremely hot environment that dinosaurs, being the huge-ass cold-blooded lizards, were able to thrive in. If a dinosaur were to exist in today's environment, it would be hard pressed to move even a mile thanks to the amount of heat it needed to amass in order to operate its cold-blooded massive body.

In English, hot weather = cold blooded monsters can move, too hot for mamals because they'll be sweating to death = Welcome to the age of the dinosaurs ^O^!

Back then, the earth was young and still breaking out. Lots of volcanic eruptions happened and I can tell you that a massive prehistoric volcanic eruption causes more air pollution than America can hope to produce in that single moment. The dust would clog the skies for days, the heat and carbon monoxide exhumed from the earth's core would tear a massive hole in the ozone for years. Nature does 'gobal warming' better than we humans could ever hope to do.

Here's where I introduce my pendulum analogy. I believe that the earth's climate is always moving towards an equilibrium, like a pendulum, swinging from extreme to extreme, losing momentum only slightly with every pass and stopping only after many, many swings ^o^

What this means is that the earth has been swinging from ice-age to lava-age consistently in a cycle that spans millions of years, hundreds of times longer than the time where our little species has existed :D The age of the dinosaurs was the peak of that lava-age, and hundreds of millions of years later, it slowly shifted to colder climates and the infamous ice-age (which has spawned the four-part and counting movie franchise).

The evidence of the gradual cooling of the earth and how it played a role in ending the reign of the dinosaurs is well documented ^o^ Long story short, the earth got colder, dinosaurs weren't able to move well, the bottom of the food chain, the plants, were adapting to the colder weather (leafy plants evolving to thin pines and shoots to maintain heat and etc) and the large sauropods (leaf eating dinosaurs) weren't able to adapt quickly enough, dying out and pulling the rug out under the dinosaur food chain ;_;

Smaller dinosaurs were able to adapt quicker and evolved feathers. Don't laugh, its true. Most of the small velopciraptor type dinosaurs had feathers towards the end of the age of dinosaurs to allow their bodies to retain heat admits the cooling weather. Yes, they evolved into birds *o*

The now cooler environment allowed a new breed of animals that are more well suited to cold conditions to thrive - the warm blooded mamals. And so the age of the mamoth and the bison began ^o^ At least until a mutant race of aquatic monkeys evolved to use tools and restructured the way the food chain worked by totally dominating it... :P

Coming back to global warming, though. The ice-age was the end of the cold extreme of the pendulum, and it has thus begun to swing back towards the hot extreme ^^ So it is only natural the the world will be getting gradually warmer and warmer :3

It moves at a glacial pace, though, as I said before, it is a process that spans millions upon millions of years... and the poor human mind is too impatient and incapable of thinking on such a large scale. Its pretty understandable, though, as it is infinitely difficult for a fly, that measures its lifespan by days, to understand the concept of time through the eyes of a tree, that measures its lifespan by hundreds of years.

So in a nutshell, that is why global warming is bullshit. Even if fossil fuels were banned tomorrow and everyone used recyclable, environmentally friendly energy sources and lived a healthy lifestyle, the earth would still get warmer and warmer every year~ until it reaches the next lava-age.. which none of us, not even our grandchildren, would be around to experience ^_^

"Global warming", then, is just a very very convenient propaganda tool by corporations and political parties to rally people to their sides, act as if they're doing something, and tell people what to do. I'm not saying everyone that advocates global warming is a big con artist or is trying to control what you buy or charge you more money for something that's 'environmentally friendly', some people truly believe with all their hearts and souls that global warming is a real threat to us all ;_; They're really sincere. Its really sweet and all, but unfortunately its all bullshit. Actually, its a lot like religion, really ;)

Thoughts on premarital sex

(Or sex in general.. with a little section on virginity)

Being from an Asian community, sex is and has always been somewhat of a taboo issue around me. So its pretty easy to assume that premarital sex is regarded as something extremely wrong to do for the community I am in.

However, I am totally indifferent about the issue. I actually wanted to say that I am totally supportive of premarital sex, but I don't want to sound like I'm recommending it to every single couple out there.. its more like I don't think its a wrong thing to do, and it is especially, definitely not something sinful and humiliating.

One of the main things people have against premarital sex is due to all the risks and accidents relating to it. Ask anyone against premarital sex why and they'll point you to all the rising instances of baby dumping and sexually transmitted diseases. The thing is, all these negative things occur not because premarital sex is negative but because the people doing it are not well prepared, uninformed, or just reckless and irresponsible to begin with. Don't blame the sin, blame the sinner.

Speaking of sin, there is a lot of religious stigma against premarital sex. The main argument is that premarital sex is basically giving into the temptations of the flesh, suggesting couples to wait until marriage before going that far. Sex for 'recreational' purposes (for lack of a better term.. I don't like using casual sex because of all the baggage associated with it. Married couples have sex for recreational purposes too) is considered as sinful, as sex has the only purpose as the means to conceive a child and continue the bloodline~

I think this is a load of bullshit. The desire to have sex is one of the most natural things to feel for humans - it's hardwired into our brains, into our very being. Its an evolutionary necessity. Only the human mind, in all it's creativity, has come up with the idea of suppressing these natural instincts. Why? For moral reasons? In order to ensure a functional and orderly society? No. It is to claim ownership.

One might argue that patience is a virtue, and going fucking around isn't a civil thing to do. That's because these rules that have been placed in human societies have become universal rules, common sense, moral values, logic. I'm not saying that they are wrong, as I have often pointed out in my blogposts, as long as the mass majority of humans agree on a certain truth, it becomes the truth. At least until someone disputes it and persuades the mass majority. Everyone used to think the world was flat, until someone proved otherwise.

What I'm saying  is that these rules, these facts and absolute truths are not set in stone. They are created by humans for the betterment of human society, long long ago, and though they are effective working models of an orderly society, I think that most of these ideals are outdated. I'm not saying we should all throw caution to the wind and go sleeping around with whomever we wish.

I'm saying that nobody should worry about what other people think or be pressured by the rules of their societies and just do whatever they want, as long as both parties are fine with it and whatever they do does not effect other people.

Another thing I'd like to add is my thoughts on the concept of virginity. Most of you would be able to predict by now that my stance on the concept of virginity is that it is a "load of bullshit" XD Yes, exactly like what I mentioned earlier, virginity is also a concept created by humans long long ago. Let me tell you my warped theory on the conception of 'virginity'.

Long long ago, when human society was still very very male dominant, women were treated as possessions. The concept of virginity was introduced by men as a standard to measure their potential wives. The criterion for a virgin was that she must be young, fresh, and 'untouched' by any man. Sounds a lot like the criteria for picking fresh fruits in a marketplace. All men wanted virgins, and those who weren't virgins are cast aside as unwanted women with no future. This was possible because the men had all the power in most societies, so in order to survive, the women were forced to adapt to the standards set by men because a lone woman could not survive (comfortably) in such societies.

And so, this concept of virginity quickly catapulted in importance because it was a reliable and applicable standard throughout almost entire human civilizations. Mothers groomed daughters in order to meet this standards so that they would live good lives. Mothers. Women enforcing men's rules on their fellow women while men sit back and enjoy fruits of their labor. It sounds almost ridiculous when I put it that way, but that is what has been happening for centuries and has only begun to change during these recent centuries. A lot of feminists demonize men, but what they do not realize is that it is not just the patriarchal men, but the patriarchal way of thinking that is the enemy, and that includes women who think that way as well.

The concept of virginity also ensured the 'ownership' of a woman, as another man would be less likely to find another man's wife to be appealing because she isn't a virgin anymore. Of course this didn't really work, but its important to point out this idea of  'ownership' as another reason that solidifies this theory :P

Long story short, virginity is an extremely sexist concept to me which is horribly outdated. I cringe every time I hear people putting even a shred of consideration on virginity or preserving their 'sexual purity' v_v But hey, this is just my warped opinion. Don't feel pressured to change the way you think :P I'm not out to shake the foundations of human society, no matter how ridiculous and outdated it might seem to me. I'm just not going to sit still and adhere by it. Everyone has the freedom to chose whatever it is they want to do, so like Nike says, Just Do It~ tm ^o^b

The most romantic Monday of the year

Today Yesterday was the most romantic Monday of the year for most people~ I'm always so amused at how people react to this day every year *_*

The singles burst in outrage saying that its just another day, or band together in self pity, calling it Singles Awareness Day or something to that effect.. XD

The doubles on the other hand don't say anything (in fear of being bricked to death by jealous peers? XD) but go out of their way to display their affection to the world~ *o*

I have nothing against the tradition of Valentine's day, after all, it's just a tradition that reminds us to love each other <3

What I do have a problem with is how certain parties take advantage of this tradition. You know the symptoms, raised chocolate prices, extremely expensive Valentine's themed food sets, overpriced flowers, all this and more~

Speaking of flowers, I'm one of the types of people that dislikes the idea of flowers. For one, they've never appealed to me. Are they really beautiful? To be more practical, flowers can never last for long (plus I'm too lazy to maintain them ;_;) Wilting flowers are one of the saddest images one can see, not to mention the pain of throwing them away and remembering how much was spent on them T_T

Its sad how society has capitalized an innocent day like Valentine's day into a commercialized money making holiday :\

A Study on Ideas

Good ideas are those that have halos on their heads and dedicate their lives to serve towards the betterment of everything in general. :)

Bad ideas are those that have horns on their heads and try their best to achieve their selfish goals which have nothing to do with the betterment of anything in general. :(

The end ^o^

Why mixed-race people are the most attractive

Did you know that there are so many things on the internet referring to mixed-race people being the most attractive? I didn't know it until I searched google before making this post (because I was looking for the proper term.. 'mixed people' didn't sound very right -_-)

<<I really wanted to put up a nice picture of a mixed-race person here, but I couldn't find a nice one on the internet =o=>>

Here's why mixed-race people are often considered the most attractive in a sentence;

Mixed-race people are the perfect blend of familiar and new.

Why do people want to add you on facebook?

Hi kids ^o^ today we're going to talk about the reasons why a person might want to add you on facebook.

The Art of Foreshadowing

Allright kids, today I'm going to teach you about the art that is Foreshadowing.

First, you take four light sources and shine them on one object or person. POW. Four shadows appear.

Congratulations! You've just foreshadowed! Yes yes, I'm well aware that it's foreshadow, not fourshadow. Don't worry, I don't think you're (that) stupid ^_^ Listen, you can't judge a book by it's cover, okay ;O Just because it's 'fore' doesn't mean that it cannot mean 'four'.

It's foreshadow because of the word's Latin origin. You see, it was believed that if you saw all sides of a person's shadow at the same moment, you would be able to tell their past, present, future, and forever. The main use of this was to discover the all-mysterious fortunes that would befall people in their future, mostly to warn someone about bad luck. Thus that practice was called foreshadowing. Sadly, the last surviving foreshadower died many years ago. She did not foresee her sad, unmarried life :(

Why Wikipedia should be our source of knowledge (Unproofreaded)

Sorry I've been AFK for sometime, you might have guessed that I have been busy due to assignments. You are wrong. While I do have loads of work to do, I have been busy furthering my skills in the art of procrastinarianism

Yes, I have been diligently procrastinarinating the past few days and all I have to say is, I never thought youtube could be this interesting ^o^. In other news, this is a load of philosophy that I spewed a few days ago, just copy-pasting to keep my blog.. healthy :D

A week ago, I posted on facebook wondering if wikipedia were more reliable, it could actually replace textbooks for school children, making everyone's lives easier.

The most interesting thing I gathered from this, however, is the common notion that wikipedia is unreliable, it's rubbish. Why?

Because entries in wikipedia can be edited by anyone, and it has plenty of cases of false information. Some entries in wikipedia aren't even cited properly or academically, which casts even more doubts on the content.

Very logical and reasonable arguments, I'm sure. But I'm starting to disagree.

Ironicity

I would like to thank Yukina for providing the inspiration for this blogpost, I could've done it without you, but you were in the right place in the right time ;D *winks*

...*shivers* >_> anyways,

In this age of internet and facebook, people are connecting on countless levels that were unthinkable a mere hundred years ago~ Oh how far have we come *_*

That, however, is completely unrelated to what I wanna talk about today~

Today, I want to talk about trends. People have this aversion towards being like other people, everyone wants to be unique. If you stand out in a crowd, you're special, and will more likely to be noticed, which is a good thing, unless you're in Japan, where you'll get hammered like a nail..

This desire of being unique and original has been around forever, back when the first caveman thought it would be better if he used the skin of the mammoth he had for dinner to cover up his be-hind (and in-front) rather than get itches from the leaves like all other cavemen. Needless to say, the ladies were all over him. We're his decedents. Sup bro?

Even till this day, you see many aspiring cavemen and cavegirls trying to look as unique as possible, trying to do things that nobody has done before, shunning what's normal, or cliche, or mainstream, or corny. Did you know that there exist people that start to dislike something they like just because too many people started liking it too?! I know right?? Preposterous!

What I've realized, however, is that there are so many people (on the vast culmiverse[1] of the internet) that try their best to be original, to be unique, that the notion of being 'original' and 'unique has actually become the norm!

There are more 'unique' and 'original' people now than people who fit into 'stereotypes' or are 'corny' @_@! Isn't that ironic, don't you think? It's like raiinn~~~ On your wed--

..*cough* sorry. So yeah, don't worry if you think you're stereotypical or are just plain normal or corny. You're actually the trendy ones! ^o^b

[1] Culmniverse - a term meaning "Cumulative universe", a group of universes grouped together to form a great Culmniverse. Ex. "The internet is a culmniverse consisting of facebook, twitter, blogspot, youtube, wikipedia, google, and 4chan". See also, multiverse.

Jumping the Shark

Jumping the Shark is an idiom.. or an expression (I really need to get my terminology right..) that.. signifies the beginning of the end, basically.

Doesn't really make sense, does it? Well, it originated from a climatic scene from (a series, I think,) "Hollywood", which was apparently really awesome, and from what I gathered, after this point is when definition that our good friend Wicky.. jumped the shark.

The definition basically breaks into two basic ideas;

It is the moment that signifies the beginning of the downturn of a successful enterprise.
and,
It's a moment, where you know that something has reached it's peak, its height, its climax. And then you know that after that, it's all going downhill.

Putting these two together, we'd reach a conclusion that jumping the shark basically signifies the Best Moment of Your Life, where as delightful as that is, it also means that by being the best moment, the subsequent moments of your (remaining) life would be.. not, best.
