So naturally, I practice what I preach, and in an msn convo sometime later;

..thats why I said, life online is totally different from real life! >o<

Me, for example. The Kitsune you see online (which for many of you, is the only Kitsune you know of) is almost totally different from the me in real life! :O

Its been quite awhile since I've made friends online before meeting them in real life.. but I'm pretty sure I'll get responses from them like "..you're nothing like how you sound like online dude.. you're so mundane in real life ~_~" etc

Meh, its not like its a new experience or anything. Long long ago while your grandmother was still young, I used to be really active in forums and sounded more or less like I do now online minus the profanities and add more ^O^s, XDs, and nya nya nyas ^o^

..okay that is definitely not 'more or less alike' .o.

But I digress ^w^ what I wanted to say was most of my original online friends thought I sound like a (cute) girl ^o^ they were sorely disappointed when we met in real life and they realized that I was actually a pokemon o3o pikaa

So naturally I have come up with the impression that people, no matter how transparent and 'genuine' they are, have different personalities between their online selves and their 'real life' selves.

It has something to do with the impersonal nature of online interactions.. sure, you can argue that there are display pictures and nicknames and even fonts and colors that helps personalize your online persona to some degree.. but..

..yeah, like I said, personalize your online persona. Once you're communicating through the medium of the internet, the internet shreds your skin and meat and bones and reduces you to raw electrical impulses that originate from your brain to your fingers to the keypads you're pressing to the ones and zeroes that form the message on your screens!

Sounds as if your online personality is even more raw than your 'real life' personality, isn't it? Which is ironic considering the fact that being online is often associated with having a 'mask' of sorts.

Its as if you're behind a safety wall where you can voice out anything you want or feel like with almost no negative repercussions to your 'real self' thanks to the relative anonymity of the internet, right? That's why people are more critical and mean and horrible and horny and flirty and cute and sparklier online than they are in real life ^w^

I mean, I can easily say fuck you ^_^ to you right now to your face! Oh yeah I just did :3 But when we meet in real life, I'm as shy as a mouse ^o^ pii pii *hides behind a pillow*

What does this mean, though? I think it means that the common consensus that we wear masks online to hide our true 'real' selves has got it backwards. The masks we wear are actually our 'real' life personas and our real, true selves are what we exhibit online, where we don't have to hold back ;D

Doesn't it make sense? It sure makes sense to me when I think about the fact that in real life, I always have to watch what I say because I might offend someone (and more importantly punched in the face or kicked in the groin x_x) so I'm always filtering my words and actions, sometimes having to hold back what I think to avoid trouble.

Isn't that really fake, though? Its not what I really feel or want to do, right? I have to be considerate and prim and proper and decent :O

Compare it to online, where all hell breaks loose ^w^ I post whatever the shit I want on facebook all the time without a care in the world who reads it and what they think (and I have lecturers and family members who have my facebook so...) and the way I talk.. phew. I rarely talk like that to the same people I meet in real life, not unless they're really close to me and I'm particularly high at the moment (high as in not sober, I wasn't greeting you v_v)

And look! o_o <-- look at all these emoticons! @_@ Of course I'm not an emotionless pokerface in real life, (at least I hope not) but I almost never ever act cute or kawaii (yes I know they mean the same thing but they dont! @O@) in real life! Why? Because acting cute with my physical looks is downright disgusting! XD

So er what was I talking about? I thought I had some profound idea earlier but I think I drowned it with my randomness *_*

Ah yes, real life is actually the fakest thing ever, and the masquerading online personas we have are actually (maybe, I dunno, I suspect, I theorize) our 'real selves' *_* What we're really like, our true personalities, what's in our hearts~

..which means that deep down, I'm probably an obnoxious 13 year old lesbian girl ;w;

buuuut its not all about me, isn't it? Well it is for me XP but it sure isn't for you! So think about it, are you more 'real' in real life, or when you're online? ^_^

Don't worry if you're different (or the same) with 'the norm', after all, just look at superheroes~ they all have really, really mild-mannered (read: mundane) personalities for their 'real life' selves, but once they put on their disguises (online masks/personas) they become courageous and witty SUPERHEROES WOOO HOO~ *O* which, is actually their true selves :O

How manga benefits your life

Before I start, for those of you who don't know what 'manga' means, what are you doing reading my blog?! @O@ Welcome! *O* Who are you and pleased to meet you! *shakes your hands vigorously* ^O^ Sorry for all the emoticons and manga/anime exclusive expressions that have escaped you >o< It must've been hard, reading all these nonsensical nonsense...

...now go educate yourself :|

With that out of the way, there are actually many ways in which manga can benefit one's life;

One is the most literal way, where the think-out-of-the-box and out-of-this-world scenarios I've learned from being exposed to manga allowed me to come up with otherwise unthinkable excuses to get out of life-threatening pinches!

While such skills are rarely needed in our relatively safe world nowadays, it never hurts to be prepared. After all, you never know when someone with a huge ass sword will come at you, right?

Which brings us to another great skill we can learn from manga~ It is a great source for learning martial arts of all sorts~! From swordfighting, skating, hairstyling, basketball, to even trick shot pool! *o*

never get caught off guard ever again!

Okay, okay, for all the concerned parents out there, don't worry :) Manga isn't all about violence and competitiveness. It is also a great source to learn the rules of life and society ^o^ Unlike children-aimed comics or cartoons, the core audience of mangas varies from teenagers to even adults well into their forties! *o* and they tackle important issues that their target audience face in their everyday lives, asking even the most sensitive and philosophical questions... like religion *_*

Just like soap operas before them, such exposure to life's dilemmas and questions help the reader greatly in facing challenges in their own life, if only because of the simple fact that it is nothing new to them and the solution to all the problems they face has already been covered in chapter 193 last summer v_v

But such knowledge doesn't make a jaded person, no. Quite the contrary! Manga is famous for its excessively emotional characters and most agree that fans of anime and manga are quite animated indeed ^o^

Another thing that can be learned from reading manga is it teaches the reader to be more motivated to face their fears and tribulations >o<

Most main characters are subjected to the standard bildungsroman storyline where they face grueling challenge after challenge, eventually growing into a respectable character. What's important, though, is that none of them ever gave up *_*9 which makes them great role model material~

Manga also has its romantic side, where many of its already socially inept audience can benefit greatly from relationship advice and experience without getting emotionally hurt in the process! The most up-to-date (or effective) pick-up lines and ways to approach the opposite gender are showcased here and are useful tips for an embarrased, young teenager with nobody to turn to :3 (WARNING: May not work in real life situations)

There are plenty of great romantic mangas that showcase beautiful friendships and relationships between characters that many readers grow up wishing to have... and because they aren't the only ones being inspired by such mangas, many a relationship has grown from like-minded people who have both read about great relationships and want to emulate such things *o*

((the links for this whole section are noticably absent because I'm in the office and I don't wanna get fired TwT;))

...but of course, there are also many other kinds of relationships that are explored in the realm of mangas which are... best reserved for the most adventurous and are strictly not for the light hearted ^^;; (if you don't know what I'm talking about, its better that it is kept that way, trust me on this one +__+)

All in all, mangas are a great source of entertainment that can interestingly serve as a great medium for educating our generation of individualistic individuals who have seemingly forgotten (or are too embarrased) to seek lessons from other humans but instead refer to non-human sources.

If anything else, it helps avoid kids these days from being overly emo and start slitting their wrists and posting up pictures on their facebooks and livejournals crying to the tune of crawling~ in~ my skin~ ;_;

And so ends a short, short entry on the benefits of reading manga ^o^ If you haven't started reading one, give it a try~! And if you are a parent, stop asking your kid to study! er I mean, manga isn't a waste of time and you should read what your kid is reading as well~ You might learn something about them and more importantly, it gives you more stuff to talk about rather than "how was your day?" and "have you done your homework?" :)

Our elders were not joking when they said that its important to have hobbies. I found that hobbies keep one sane, happy, and most importantly, motivated to live *_*

Before one decides on what kind of hobbies one should have, it is important to understand what exactly 'hobbies' mean.

 

How to get free entertainment

I've become really impressed with how the YouTube community works, especially the fact that people can actually make a living off making videos on YouTube *_* awesome. I would love to do that for a living, but I lack the skills nor the looks to be successful there.. but that's another story ^_^ (note to self)

So I've been toying with the idea of making the television industry obsolete by redirecting all entertainment content to the internet! ^o^ after all, with the state of youth nowadays, most of them don't even watch TV anymore. The only monitors watched are computer monitors~ TV is only used for console games and for higher resolution when watching videos from the computer :P

But how do people make money from the internet? Advertisements, that's how. Oh, advertisements are such a taboo word, always the most annoying thing disrupting one's enjoyment and people (celebrities, youtube or otherwise) associated with it are sellouts, money minded, sold their souls to the devil. -_-

I don't know about you, but I actually am one of the minority that enjoys watching advertisements. I've always found the methods of influencing and persuading customers immensely fascinating *_* Not to mention some advertisements are more entertaining than certain shows! (Seriously, go look up Thai ads, they're ridiculously hilarious)

My interests aside, advertisements are also a great source of income for celebrities. Did you know that some commercials pay more than a role in a drama? At lot of celebrities would fight for the opportunity to be in commercials~ and not only for the money, but for the snowballing recognition it provides to both the celebrity and the brand :D

Advertisers are the main source of income for the broadcasting industry (I think), TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, even the internet are mainly sponsored by advertisements. How do these advertisers get so much money, anyway? I don't know, but keeping them in business requires little to no effort on the audience's (our) part. 

We don't even need to buy the items advertised (okay, not really true, in a long-term sense, if nobody buys an advertised item the advertising company will go bankrupt and.. yeah. Anyways.) The fact that the audience watches the advertisements already guarantees payment. This can be measured online by the number of hits a page/video gets, which is how the rate of payment is calculated for online advertisements (I think). Hmm, maybe this is the way it's done for television stations too..

So all this talk about advertisements is just to underline the fact that advertisements aren't the bad, brain-washing, money-stealing things that they're made out to be. I'm sure viewers have brains to decide.. :P and more importantly, with the freedom and ease to broadcast via the internet (youtube, blogs, etc), anyone can go into broadcasting/entertainment and can make a living out of it without having to resort to agencies and all sorts of middle people.

I'm always a big fan for fair opportunities and people making full use of their talents. I love the fact that so many talented people get recognized via YouTube. If the internet did not exist, these people would not get their chance if they didn't get stumbled upon by some casting agency. Its also great because now it'll be less of a luck factor and it rewards hard work and perseverance *_*

While getting rid of a middle-man agency or main regulating station might mean absolute chaos and disorganization, I think it's actually way better that way. While everything being chaotic, it makes it so that only the best entertainers will rise to the top, beating all competition due to only merits and not broadcast time, monopolies, or other politics related to being under a regulating body. It also gives the audience the complete freedom of choice~

And the viewer can enjoy all of this for free, on their laptop/PC/mac/etc wherever and whenever...there is an internet connection ^_~ (oh the irony, this being condoned by someone how doesn't even have internet)

The Art of Foreshadowing

Allright kids, today I'm going to teach you about the art that is Foreshadowing.

First, you take four light sources and shine them on one object or person. POW. Four shadows appear.

Congratulations! You've just foreshadowed! Yes yes, I'm well aware that it's foreshadow, not fourshadow. Don't worry, I don't think you're (that) stupid ^_^ Listen, you can't judge a book by it's cover, okay ;O Just because it's 'fore' doesn't mean that it cannot mean 'four'.

It's foreshadow because of the word's Latin origin. You see, it was believed that if you saw all sides of a person's shadow at the same moment, you would be able to tell their past, present, future, and forever. The main use of this was to discover the all-mysterious fortunes that would befall people in their future, mostly to warn someone about bad luck. Thus that practice was called foreshadowing. Sadly, the last surviving foreshadower died many years ago. She did not foresee her sad, unmarried life :(

How to learn more about yourself :D

Achtung; Like all things in social science, heck, in all human related studies, this is in no way a perfect generalization that can be applied to anybody. Take this with a pinch of salt, or whatever spice of your choice :D tl;dr: Jangan perasan >o<

Think about how you have conversations with your friends, your parents, even your teachers or colleagues at work. There is always an exchange of information going on, and through this process of exchanging information, you can actually learn a lot about the person(s) that you're communicating with, and vice versa ^o^

You can also learn a lot about yourself.

Jumping the Shark

Jumping the Shark is an idiom.. or an expression (I really need to get my terminology right..) that.. signifies the beginning of the end, basically.

Doesn't really make sense, does it? Well, it originated from a climatic scene from (a series, I think,) "Hollywood", which was apparently really awesome, and from what I gathered, after this point is when definition that our good friend Wicky.. jumped the shark.

The definition basically breaks into two basic ideas;

It is the moment that signifies the beginning of the downturn of a successful enterprise.
and,
It's a moment, where you know that something has reached it's peak, its height, its climax. And then you know that after that, it's all going downhill.

Putting these two together, we'd reach a conclusion that jumping the shark basically signifies the Best Moment of Your Life, where as delightful as that is, it also means that by being the best moment, the subsequent moments of your (remaining) life would be.. not, best.
